Background Information

Kim Sosin is Professor Emeritus of Economics at the University of Nebraska Omaha. She retired in 2006 as the Noddle Distinguished Professor of Economics and Chair of the Department of Economics at UNO. She was also co-Director of the UNO Center for Economic Education for 20 years. She studied at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the London School of Economics, earning the Ph.D. in economics from the University of Nebraska Lincoln in 1970.

Kim has published and presented nationally and internationally numerous papers on the scholarship of teaching and learning economics. She has also published in the areas of macroeconomics, labor and gender economics, economic growth and technology transfer. She was the founding associate editor of the online section of the Journal of Economic Education and served as the associate editor from 2000 to 2008. She was the first official chair of the technology committee for the National Association of Economic Educators and a member of its Executive Board. She was also a member of the Board of Directors of the National Council on Economic Education.

Kim has been involved in the technology of teaching economics throughout her career. She is creator and webmaster of http://ecedweb.unomaha.edu a website that has, since 1996, provided resources and economics lessons for teachers of economics from kindergarten through college levels. She was a co-director of a large study, funded by the Andrew F. Mellon Foundation in 2001, whose focus was to determine if technology-enhanced introductory economics courses are more effective and efficient than traditionally-taught courses. She is currently co-director of a Calvin K. Kazanjian Economics Foundation project, http://www.econedreviews.orgwhose objectives include providing teacher-created reviews of all online K-12 economics teaching material.
