Assistant Professor - Physics (Geology/Oceanography) at Community College of Rhode Island

This position involves teaching college-level Geology and Oceanography courses including Physical Geology, Historical Geology, Oceanography and Natural Disasters and also teach basic conceptual physics (lectures and lab).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach college-level Geology and Oceanography courses including Physical Geology, Historical Geology, Oceanography and Natural Disasters and also teach basic conceptual physics (lectures and lab) at multi-campus locations
  • Demonstrate commitment to the community college mission and its diverse student populations.
  • Use innovative instructional strategies that support student success and recognize diverse learning styles.
  • Use technology to enhance instruction and communicate effectively with the campus community.
  • Participate in college activities including committee work.
  • Apply strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, and a collaborative approach to working with students and colleagues.
  • Contribute to a dynamic teaching/learning environment requiring adaptability, creativity, and teamwork.
  • Be willing to travel and teach at multi-campus locations as required by department needs.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A Master's Degree in Geology, Physical Oceanography or Geological Oceanography is required, PhD preferred.
  • Successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to teach conceptual physics.
  • Teaching experience at a college/community college level in the full time capacity preferred.
  • Record of a dynamic and engaging teaching style, curriculum and program development.
  • Experience using technology to enhance instruction and communicate effectively with the campus community.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, and a collaborative approach to working with students and colleagues.
  • Finalists will be required to provide official college transcripts.

SALARY:
Salary commensurate with education and experience

APPOINTMENT:
Beginning 2013 Spring Semester
Academic-Year schedule; Tenure-Track position
