Nominate an Outstanding Earth Science Teacher

Use this form to nominate an outstanding teacher for NAGT’s Outstanding Earth Science Teacher Award.

This award is given to acknowledge outstanding teaching about the Earth sciences, at K-12 grade levels. The nomination forms support a two-step process. First, the candidate is nominated by a colleague, administrator (or other person with knowledge of the candidate’s qualifications) using the form below. Next the OEST coordinator for each of the sections will review the entries and may request more supporting information from the nominee. Selection of the awardee will be made in the spring of each award year.

To the person making the nomination: the list below describes qualities that we value in an awardee. The items are guidelines only and it is not necessary to address each item, but if you do have relevant information to support the nomination, please include it. Specific examples of the nominee’s techniques or strategies may improve his/her chances. We expect that at elementary grade levels, an outstanding candidate may teach a variety of subjects, so it is not necessary that the nominee teach Earth science exclusively.

Teaching ability: What techniques does the nominee/applicant employ? What is his/her teaching philosophy? Are lessons challenging and comprehensive? Do students enjoy the lessons?
Inventiveness: What new ideas, materials, software, instructional strategies, or techniques has the nominee/applicant incorporated or developed?
Initiative: How does the nominee/applicant handle new situations and accommodate students of various abilities?
Strengths: What are the principal strengths of the nominee/applicant?
Community involvement: How is the nominee/applicant involved in community and/or youth activities?
Other activities: Professional activities and noteworthy accomplishments.
