Geological reasoning; geology as an interpretive and historical science
R. Frodeman 1995 Geological Society of America Bulletin v. 107, no. 8, p. 960-968

The goal of this paper is to encourage conversation between those who practice in the disciplines of geology and philosophy, lamenting the lack of attention that has been given to geology in favor of physics. The paper is published in GSA Bulletin, and thus intended for an audience of geoscientists, and provides a readable philosophical framework for the discipline.
