The significance of geologic time: Cultural, educational, and economic frameworks

This paper addresses students' understanding of and motivation to learn about geologic time. The authors summarize the literature about common student difficulties and misconceptions concerning geologic time and suggest the cultural and social issues that may result in these difficulties. They offer suggestions for how to overcome these difficulties to increase students' motivation.
