Facilitating Meetings that Foster Equity and Inclusivity

The professional life of an educator inevitably includes leading meetings and workshops as part of daily program operations, professional development, strategic planning, and so on. For the geosciences to become a more inclusive discipline, we need colleagues skilled at meeting/workshop facilitation that fosters equity and inclusivity.

Below are resources to help you successfully facilitate a meeting or workshop (for simplicity, from here just 'meeting') with two goals in mind:

  1. Running the meeting in a way that promotes equity and inclusivity
  2. Fostering meaningful dialogue on topics related to diversity, equity, and inclusion within the geosciences and beyond

These pages offer some new content but also serve as a hub for information that has been posted elsewhere. The pages emerged from the needs of and dialogue with NAGT workshop facilitators and through workshops that were facilitated by Nancy McHugh, Reginald Archer and David Blockstein, and Powerplay and Incluxion Works.

Additional contributions are from Catherine Riihimaki and the NAGT facilitators of the Early Career workshop, Preparing for an Academic Career, and Traveling workshop program for the authorship.

You can jump to the pages you need by clicking links below, using the table of contents in the menu on the left side of the page, or scrolling through the pages sequentially using the links at the bottom of each page.
