Geo-Needs: Project Team

This project was conceived at the 2014 NSF IDEAS Lab held in February, 2014. Our long-term goal is to develop programs that can help recruit and retain students from underrepresented groups to the geosciences. We ultimately hope to provide a course and curriculum development service to help 2YCs and MSIs create new geoscience programs on their campuses. To do this, we have undertaken this initial stage of a "needs assessment" to determine the opportunities and challenges facing these institutions in developing and supporting geoscience programs. Outcomes of this needs assessment will not only inform our future work, but will be useful to the geoscience education community at large.

The project team consists of:

  • Heather Petcovic, Lead PI, Western Michigan University
  • Sheldon Turner, PI, Triton College
  • Nicole LaDue, PI, Northern Illinois University
  • Tina Cartwright, PI, Marshall University
  • David Mogk, PI, Montana State University
  • Emily Geraghty Ward, External Evaluator, Rocky Mountain College
  • Xai Her, Graduate Assistant, Northern Illinois University
  • Andrew Phillip Keller Bentley, Graduate Assistant, Western Michigan University
  • Monica Bruckner, Technical Support, SERC
