Picture3 2011 North Central Section Annual Meeting and Field Trip - Let's Do it!

Sinks Canyon Area
Lander, WY
July 20-22, 2011 followed by a camping field trip in the Wind River Mountains

Come enjoy the beautiful and peaceful setting of Sinks Canyon while you meet other geoscience educators from around North America. We will share curriculum ideas and spend as much time outdoors as possible. We'll start out on Wednesday, July 20 with a short local hike in the canyon, followed by a poster/sharing session in the evening. A full-day field trip around the canyon will be held on Thursday, July 21. After the section meeting on Friday morning, you are welcome to join others in a camping trip in the Wind River Mountains. Whether we make it car camping or backpacking will be up to the participants. Your families and pets are welcome to join us!

Lodging: We will be meeting at the University of Missouri Geology camp. There are residence facilities at the Camp Branson, situated at the base of the Wind River Mountains, in the Shoshone National Forest. The facilities are somewhat primitive so you will need to bring your own linens. If you would like your own room and/or toilet facilities, motels are available in nearby Lander at a range of styles and prices (see Lander Chamber of Commerce). If making motel reservations, do so early as this meeting is at the height of tourist season. If you would like to camp (this includes trailers) you may do so on adjoining Shoshone NF land for no extra charge.

Transportation: Daily flights into Riverton (RIW - 35 miles north) are available. However there is no transportation into Lander available but we can arrange for a pick-up. Alternately, flying into either Salt Lake City (5 hours) or Denver (7 hours) and renting a car is a scenic option for those with time.

Registration: Registration fee includes primitive (cabin) lodging, two breakfasts and lunches and two dinners. NAGT members, non-members and guests: $60; students/K-12 teachers $30. Please register by July 16, 2011. This meeting will not be cancelled. It will happen with whoever can make it. Register for the event Picture1
