Workshop Overview

This workshop focuses on the success of all students, including the need to broaden participation in the geosciences. Geoscience programs need to attract a more diverse population to remain a thriving and relevant community poised to meet the needs of our society. Based on changing demographics and changes in the geosciences, we should no longer rely on the same methods of attracting and supporting students.

Workshop Goals for Participants

  • Discuss how to reach and attract students to the geosciences.
  • Recognize barriers to inclusivity and assess how we might be excluding students.
  • Explore strategies to help students thrive.
  • Develop an action plan for strategies to implement in courses and departments.
