NAGT Code of Conduct

All participants in NAGT activities – including, but not limited to, attendees, speakers, volunteers, exhibitors, NAGT staff, members of the media, vendors, and service providers (hereinafter "participants") – are expected to abide by the NAGT Code of Conduct. This Code of Conduct applies in all venues, including field trips, webinars, ancillary events and social gatherings, and on-line forums and discussions associated with the NAGT.

Hosting a Fireside Chat

"Fireside chats" are informal conversations on timely topics that are likely to appeal to the NAGT community or a subset thereof. Fireside chats may include a speaker or a panel of speakers, or they may be facilitated discussions about a specific topic without presentations.

Fireside chats can be organized and led by an NAGT section, division, or committee, and are for NAGT members. Unlike webinars, participation in fireside chats is a member benefit, and links to join should only be shared with members. Also unlike webinars, there is no registration for fireside chats nor is a web page created (i.e., Executive office staff are not involved in the planning and preparation). In order to facilitate honest conversation and discussion, fireside chats are not recorded or transcribed (though participants may wish to use real-time closed-captioning).

Suggesting a Webinar

NAGT offers a webinar series as part of its professional development programming. The webinar series is organized by the Webinar Committee and supported by NAGT staff. Webinars are free and open to the community (not limited to NAGT members); we promote them through the newsletter and also the webinar interest list which has ~1500 members. Registration is required to receive the link to the webinar; all webinars are recorded and transcribed and the recordings are made available on both the NAGT website in the webinar archives and our YouTube channel.

If you wish to propose a webinar for the NAGT webinar series, please use the suggestion form to do so. This will ensure your suggestion gets to the webinar committee.

Holding a Section Conference

Sections commonly run regional conferences or meetings for their members and other local Earth educators. Previous Section leaders prepared a manual for organizing these events.

Risk Management

The NAGT Executive Director's office maintains insurance that, in most cases, covers risks associated with section-sponsored events, field trips, and meetings. Section leaders are encouraged to contact the Executive Director's office for further details about coverage limitations and exclusions, or to request a certificate of insurance.

Obtaining Exhibit Booth Set-up and Promotional Materials

NAGT has a set of promotional materials that are typically used at conference exhibit booths but can also be used at meetings, workshops, or other events. NAGT leaders and members may request the use of these materials. Materials can be shipped to the show site at no cost. Sections and Divisions must pay the costs of return shipping at the conclusion of the event.
